Every year on the first Saturday in April, downtown Ann Arbor becomes the ultimate destination for cannabis enthusiasts. Meet in the center of campus at the U-M Diag. Experience the 53rd annual Ann Arbor Hash Bash, and nearby Monroe Street Fair, for history in the making. 

The arrest and imprisonment of poet John Sinclair —for possession of two joints—set Ann Arbor on the trajectory as Michigan’s (and perhaps the country’s) most pioneering cannabis community. Sinclair’s arrest and 10-year sentence led to protests and rallies, ultimately morphing into the iconic Hash Bash, an annual protest-fueled gathering since 1972.

Hash Bash has become the event for cannabis advocates and allies. Partake in ‘high noon’ at The Diag on U-M campus and gather to hear prominent cannabis advocates. Past speakers include Tommy Chong and John Sinclair, whose arrest sparked protests that evolved into Hash Bash.

Saturday, April 5 Monroe Street Fair

Your Hash Bash trip isn’t complete without a visit to the Monroe Street Fair. Shop vendors and order from food trucks onsite. Head to beloved afterparty restaurant and bar, Dominick’s, and chill on the patio with new friends. This street fair welcomes ages 21+ only.

April 4-6 Hash Bash Cup

The Wyndham Garden Hotel hosts the official Hash Bash Cup, a ticketed weekend event hosting celebrity guests, entertainment, vendors, food trucks, and award-winning cannabis products. The Hampton Inn & Suites Ann Arbor West nearby also welcomes Hash Bash guests.
