Ann Arbor Hash Bash

April 4, 2026, High Noon @ the Diag

The first Saturday in April, downtown Ann Arbor becomes the ultimate destination for cannabis enthusiasts. Meet in the center of campus at the U-M Diag. Experience the 55th annual Ann Arbor Hash Bash for history in the making.

The arrest and imprisonment of poet John Sinclair —for possession of two joints—set Ann Arbor on the trajectory as Michigan’s (and perhaps the country’s) most pioneering cannabis community. Sinclair’s arrest and 10-year sentence led to protests and rallies, ultimately morphing into the iconic Hash Bash, an annual protest-fueled gathering since 1972.

Visitors often turn it into a full weekend experience: exploring Kerrytown shops, dining downtown, catching live music, and soaking up that early-spring-in-Tree-Town energy. Hash Bash isn’t just about cannabis. It’s about conversation, tradition, and the enduring belief that voices matter.

April 3-5 Hash Bash Cup

The Wyndham Garden Hotel hosts the official Hash Bash Cup, a ticketed weekend event hosting celebrity guests, entertainment, vendors, food trucks, and award-winning cannabis products. The Hampton Inn & Suites Ann Arbor West nearby also welcomes Hash Bash guests.

Hash Bash is part rally, part reunion. Speakers often include activists, lawmakers, and national voices in cannabis policy. The Diag fills with people listening, discussing, reconnecting. It’s energetic but reflective.

Even in an era of legalization, Hash Bash continues because it represents something bigger than one issue. It’s about public space. It’s about conversation. It’s about a community that shows up — year after year — to participate in its own story.
